چکیده

The sorting of biological cells or particles immersed in a fluid is frequent goal the domain microfluidics. One approach for such using inertial effects that are present curved channels. In this study, we propose new focusing microfluidic devices. investigated channels had form helical channel with circular cross-section, and were spherical. We identified key parameters influence cell results through multiple computational simulations modelling tool PyOIF within package ESPResSo. found spherical could be sorted respect to their size since stabilised positions located different parts cross section. location position function parameters, geometrical device, cells.

Electroosmotic flows in microchannels with finite inertial and pressure forces.

Emerging microfluidic systems have spurred an interest in the study of electrokinetic flow phenomena in complex geometries and a variety of flow conditions. This paper presents an analysis of the effects of fluid inertia and pressure on the velocity and vorticity field of electroosmotic flows. In typical on-chip electrokinetics applications, the flow field can be separated into an inner flow re...

Fundamentals of inertial focusing in microchannels.

Inertial microfluidics has been attracting considerable interest in recent years due to immensely promising applications in cell biology. Despite the intense attention, the primary focus has been on development of inertial microfluidic devices with less emphasis paid to elucidation of the inertial focusing mechanics. The incomplete understanding, and sometimes confusing experimental results tha...

Inertial Focusing of Microparticles in Curvilinear Microchannels

A passive, continuous and size-dependent focusing technique enabled by "inertial microfluidics", which takes advantage of hydrodynamic forces, is implemented in this study to focus microparticles. The objective is to analyse the decoupling effects of inertial forces and Dean drag forces on microparticles of different sizes in curvilinear microchannels with inner radius of 800 μm and curvature a...

Chaotic flows in microchannels: A lattice Boltzmann study

Roughness effects on lubricant flows are investigated via 2D lattice Boltzmann simulations. At a Reynolds numbers of order 1000 a transition from laminar to unsteady flow is observed by an increase of the roughness height from about 10% to about 25% of the channel width. At lower Reynolds numbers (where the flow is laminar in both channels), the transition is observed when increasing the wall r...
